Bedrock Robotics Raises $270M to Put Autonomous Excavators on Job Sites in 2026

Bedrock Robotics has closed a $270 million Series B to scale autonomous construction equipment. CapitalG and the Valor Atreides AI Fund co-led the round, with NVentures (NVIDIA’s venture arm), Tishman Speyer, and MIT among the participants.

The company was founded in 2024 by former Waymo engineers who helped build the autonomous driving systems behind fully driverless vehicles on public roads. Bedrock came out of stealth in July 2025 and has since been testing its autonomous systems on active construction sites. Its flagship product, the Bedrock Operator, uses lidar, GPS, and motion sensors to retrofit existing heavy equipment — turning excavators weighing 20 to 80 tons into machines that can navigate and work on job sites without a human at the controls.

Bedrock is targeting its first fully operator-less excavator deployments with customers this year. The company has already demonstrated results at scale: on a 130-acre manufacturing project with Sundt Construction, its autonomous systems moved 65,000 cubic yards of earth.

The timing matters because construction firms are running out of people. The sector needs roughly half a million new workers in 2026, and more than four in ten current workers will have retired by 2031. Building automation — from excavation to grading — is shifting from a productivity upgrade to something closer to an operational requirement.

Bedrock’s retrofit model — upgrading existing machines rather than replacing them — lowers the entry point for mid-sized firms that cannot justify buying a new fleet. That approach mirrors a broader pattern in construction AI, where subscription and retrofit strategies are accelerating adoption across company sizes.
