AI for Car Dealerships: Five Advances Across Every Layer
Five separate AI product launches landed across dealership operations in a single week — from website discovery through AI search, to automated video advertising, to service lane inspection grading, and phone intelligence. Here are this week's most significant developments for dealers tracking how AI fits across the full stack of auto dealership software.
DealerOn Sidekick. DealerOn launched Sidekick AI on May 5, 2026, embedding AI across four dealership website layers simultaneously: Quick Connect Chat (inventory and service questions in under three seconds), Insights Sidekick (natural-language analytics), Merchandising Sidekick (automated vehicle image enhancement), and Compliance Sidekick (OEM brand guideline monitoring). Dealers can join a limited beta through DealerOn's website.
Cars.com AI Video Ads. Cars.com expanded its VIN-level AI video advertising platform, reporting a 47% lift in influenced vehicle sales among participating dealers in the first 30 days — addressing a persistent challenge in auto dealership digital marketing where creative production and audience targeting have been managed separately. The system auto-generates unique video ads per vehicle and targets in-market shoppers once the inventory feed is connected.
AI-Ready Dealership Websites. A Digital Dealer analysis by Sam Vukas, COO of Dealer eProcess, identifies three prerequisites for AI search visibility: smart URLs, schema markup for vehicle specs and pricing, and fast page load speeds. Dealership sites not structured for AI search discovery will increasingly miss shoppers whose intent is answered before they ever click a traditional search result.
The Call Tracking Gap. Only 25% of dealership phone interactions result in a complete CRM record, according to Team Velocity CEO David Boice. Integrated call tracking surfaces browsing history, active incentives, and service history to call handlers in real time — inside the CRM and DMS tools teams already use daily.
myKaarma Tech Video Grader. Ford named myKaarma a Preferred Partner for its AI Video Grader, which grades technician inspection videos on clarity and communication quality. Higher-quality inspection videos improve customer authorization rates for service work — a direct fixed-ops revenue lever that AI is now optimizing at scale.
