Amazon Web Services made its most direct healthcare AI move on March 5, releasing Amazon Connect Health — a platform of five AI agents built for healthcare providers. The agents handle patient identity verification, appointment scheduling, ambient clinical documentation, clinical note generation, and medical coding. At $99 per month per user, AWS put a specific price on what healthcare automation costs at the agent level.
The platform connects with existing electronic health record systems without requiring a full technology overhaul. Patient verification and ambient documentation are generally available now, while appointment management remains in preview. All features are HIPAA-eligible and follow AWS's standard security architecture.
Early results from one large health system show the platform saving roughly one minute per call on patient verification alone — freeing 630 hours of staff labor weekly that previously went to manual record lookup. That time is being redirected to direct patient care.
The launch arrives alongside competing healthcare AI platforms from Salesforce and Microsoft, all released within the same 10-day window. AWS is betting that its existing cloud footprint in healthcare and its ownership of One Medical give it an edge in testing and refining AI clinical workflows before broader deployment.
